Established in 2016, the inaugural Textile Palette Exhibition was launched at Gallery5 in the historic village of Clunes, Victoria. The opening event reflected a vibrant artisan community with a creative edge and set a precedent for celebrating textile arts at both a local and regional level.
Since its early beginnings, the exhibition has grown into a curated biennial event, showcasing works that explore and challenge the boundaries of contemporary textile art practice.
Now attracting both emerging and established textile and fibre artists from across Australia, the exhibition invites applications from a diverse range of practitioners. At its heart, The Textile Palette Exhibition celebrates the creative contributions made within the visual arts through stitching, textile sculptural works, and costume-based practices, highlighting an ever-expanding array of individual techniques, materials, and ideas.
Looking ahead, the biennial exhibition aims to continue offering thought-provoking themes, expanding audiences for artists, and fostering meaningful connections between makers, curators, and collectors. It also plays a valuable role in drawing visitors to the historic village of Clunes and the wider Hepburn Shire, including Ballarat and surrounding regions.
The Textile Palette Exhibition is recognised for its diversity of talent and creative scope, encompassing works that feature expressive stitch and surface design, contemporary appliqué, art quilting, costume, sculpture, installations, and reimagined soft furnishings and furniture.
