STUFF: PURPOSE, profit, periL.
ABOUT
The biennial Textile Palette Exhibition 2026 aims to showcase and celebrate the work of established and emerging textile and fibre artists. In collaboration with THE WAREHOUSE CLUNES of the Hepburn Shire Council, this is a fully accessible exhibition providing a regional space for artists to exhibit and promote their work.
2026 THEME
STUFF: Purpose, profit, peril. is a thought-provoking textile and fibre exhibition that explores humanity’s complex relationship with material things. It considers how objects, ranging from everyday items and luxury goods to waste and heirlooms, reflect our values, drive economic systems, and impact the environment.
Artists are invited to reflect on the things we accumulate, why we accumulate them, and the results of our choices, raising timely questions about emotional attachment, consumerism, sustainability, and global inequity.
From ancient artifacts of the past to disposable plastics of our future, material objects have always played a central role in our lives. Accumulated things meet our needs, shape our identities, and sustain industries; however they also create clutter, may cause harm, and often outlive their usefulness. This exhibition invites artists to respond to three central questions:
What is the purpose of the things we hold on to?
Who profits from the production and consumption of goods?
When does stuff become a peril to our wellbeing and the planet?
Through a diverse range of artistic and design responses, the exhibition explores themes of production, consumption, memory, capitalism, waste, and sustainability.
